These collected series constitute the beginnings of the collaborative project, In Rapture. At its inception, In Rapture was a project where my collaborator, Dr. Rachel Grace and I could present visual narratives of fashion history, focused around specific wearable pieces and the imagined lives of those who wore them. As we continued making these images, one element kept returning to the forefront. The pieces we photographed, whether in their material origin, production, stylistic uses, or cultural implications, were all connected by the broader world histories of colonialism and capitalism. The project then took a turn towards exploring a more personal connection to our own ancestry, and understanding the broader implications of these colonial rifts for those living in the diaspora.

Produced in collaboration with In Rapture, on 35mm film. Various locations around San Francisco, California & Ontario, Canada. October 2014 — June 2016.
